Make War!

For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death [make war against!] the deeds of the body, you will live.

I'm not a big fan of Rap, but this is Very Cool! I wonder if Piper has heard it :-)

Also, here are some great verses to adopt from the realm of David's physical warfare:

Psalm 18:37-39 (NKJV)
37 I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them;
Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.
38 I have wounded them,
So that they could not rise;
They have fallen under my feet.
39 For You have armed me with strength for the battle;
You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.

Psalm 144:1-4 (NKJV)

1 Blessed be the LORD my Rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle ---
2 My lovingkindness and my fortress,
My high tower and my deliverer,
My shield and the One in whom I take refuge,
Who subdues my people under me.
3 LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him?
Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him?
4 Man is like a breath;
His days are like a passing shadow.

I especially love the humbling perspective accompanying the incredible encouragement all contained in Ps 144:1-4...

Thanks for these verses brother: "...who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle" ... I love it!

As well as the relentlessness of David's fighting in Psalm 18:37-38...I get the image of one who's not taking any chances that his enemy might still be alive though most others would leave him for dead...the true mindset of mortification.

You're welcome!

Indeed - kill that sin, and make sure it's dead! John Owen must have used those verses in Mortification of Sin - he has a chapter on that very topic. I also love that those verses include both David's active warfare and his recognition that it is the Lord who gives him strength and subdues his enemies!
